Meet Bay!
Light the Ways Boater Safety Pup!
We’re thrilled to introduce the newest (and furriest) member of the Light the Way family, Bay, our future boater safety dog! 🐾
Bay is a golden Labrador puppy with a big heart and an even bigger mission: to help teach boating safety to children, offer comfort in times of crisis, and bring a little joy and healing wherever she goes.
Over the coming months, Bay will undergo specialized training to become a certified facility and outreach dog, accompanying our team to:

Fundraisers and public appearances

And maybe even out on the water one day!
Her presence reminds us that learning about safety doesn’t have to be scary, it can be welcoming, warm, and even a little fluffy. She’s not just our mascot, she’s a symbol of resilience, care, and the brighter future we’re building together.

Light The Way for Water Safety
Every ripple on the water tells a story. Ours began with loss, three young lives gone too soon at the Saybrook Breakwater, but it continues with purpose. Through Light The Way, Inc., we’re turning heartbreak into hope… one life jacket, one conversation, and one wagging tail at a time. Because no family should ever have to feel the silence that follows the storm.
A Life Jacket Can Save a Lifetime
It takes seconds for tragedy to strike, but only a moment to prevent it. A simple act, putting on a life jacket, can mean the difference between heartbreak and coming home. That’s why we’re on a mission to help kids, families, and even pets see safety not as a rule, but as a way to protect the ones they love most.

• Life jacket fittings for dogs, because they’re family too
• Partnerships with marinas, schools, and first responders to spread awareness

We’re not just teaching safety, we’re building a legacy of love and awareness that shines across every shoreline.
Bay isn’t just our outreach dog, she’s our healer, our helper, and our gentle reminder that love can move mountains (and make safety fun). Trained by Rhodes Collar, Bay visits classrooms, marinas, and community events to teach kids the importance of wearing life jackets. When she “puts hers on,” little hands follow, and suddenly, something as serious as water safety becomes something beautifully simple.
Bay also comforts those who need her the most, children learning about loss, families healing, seniors seeking companionship. She brings light wherever she goes, one tail wag at a time.
